What is Speaking Relief?

Speaking Relief is a public speaking training company, based in Toronto and run by owner Shizu Yamaguchi.

What is the learning philosophy of Speaking Relief?

The approach to public speaking taken on by Speaking Relief is that "insight comes from doing," that is, beyond committing to learning how to speak in front of a group of people and battling the nerves to do it, learning how to speak successfully is highly dependent upon the practice of doing so. Although traditional methods of public speaking training focus on the do's and don'ts of public speaking including body language training or focusing on getting rid of filler words such as "um" or "ah," the focus of Speaking Relief is on a method of learning that is highly participatory. Key in this process is to cultivate a positive environment within which to learn. This kind of environment must be highly valued by the leader in order to be upheld and is arguably the most ideal to enable the transfer of the most valuable lessons.

What type of clients does Speaking Relief train?

At this time, training is for companies looking to upgrade their employees' public speaking abilities. Training would be held onsite at the company location or arranged by the client company. Groups could be trained ranging from 5 to 25 participants at a time.

What are the fees like?

Rates are dependent upon the number and length of sessions in addition to number of participants. They are in line with the experience of Shizu's experience along with going rates of competing companies. Please see the fees section for more specifics.
